Sweet Diamond in the Community
This year, 11 teams competed to raise money in ACAP's summer fundraiser, "An ACAP-tivating Event." Teams were tasked with finding creative ways to raise funds, and wow did they deliver! Members in the Watercolor My World class pulled out their paintbrushes and joined forces to become team ACAP-tivating Watercolors and created beautiful greeting cards. Team captain Katie L., along with her friend
Laure, took the cards to an artisan craft fair in Bailey's Harbor, WI, where customers donated to the team in exchange for one of the hand-crafted cards. Team Snail Mail also dipped into their artistic side and raised donations by creating customized cards with heartfelt messages of gratitude using a Cricut. Captain Josie K. and members in the Snail Mail class dedicated many Monday mornings to designing cards and envelopes that reflected the personal interests and attributes of their donors, who then received the cards in the mail.
Team Advocators, captained by members of one of ACAP's advocacy classes, shared their stories of disability pride on social media and encouraged donors to support their stories and disability pride month by donating to the team. Similarly, team Monkees in Memory of Richard Putzer, led by Richard's niece, ACAP staff member Nicole C., shared Richard's story. He was one of ACAP's founding members! Team Monkees encouraged others to support the fundraiser in his memory.
Teams Popcorn Pie and Sweet Diamond pulled in funds with the promise of delicious treats. Team Popcorn Pie, captained by Sandra G., awarded a homemade pie to the donor who guessed closest to the number of popcorn kernels in a jar. Team Sweet Diamond tapped into Wisconsinites' love for brats and held a brat sale in ACAP's parking lot.
Team captains Olivia C. and her uncle, Chef Fred S. had a fantastic turnout and sold dozens of Chef Fred's brats and homemade "Fred Shake" to hungry customers.
Both team Walk With Me, Roll With Me and team Tri-ing for ACAP choose to put their fitness to the test and raise funds by exercising. Team Walk With Me, Roll With Me gave donors the opportunity to take a stroll with the team's captain, their good friend Lisa B. Supporters of team Tri-ing for ACAP pledged donations for each mile team captain Jeston G. ran, swam, or biked as he trained for his next triathlon. Rick V. and his team El Presidente raised funds from supporters online, while team Game On hosted the ultimate family game night with support from 28 of team captain Mason M.'s family at Game Show Battle Rooms.
On the last weekend in July, team Super Summer Scrambler hosted a golf outing in Elkhorn. The warm weather, beautiful course, and delicious catered lunch had the golfers in great spirits. Attendees also tried their luck with raffles, flag games, and a putting competition. Team captain Allison S. With the hard work of each team, and the support from our community, ACAP's 3rd Annual ACAP-tivating Event raised a net total of over $12,000 for our organization. Bravo! We hope you will join us Saturday, November 11th for our next fundraiser, the ACAP Bowl-a-Thon.
